St. Pius Sweeps Stephens in Atlanta

It was a tough night Friday night in Atlanta for the Stephens County Indians. In both the girls and boys games, St. Pius jumped out to big first half leads and won going away.

In the girls game, St. Pius defeated Stephens County 56-38. The Lady Indians trailed St. Pius 11-5 after one quarter, and 31-19 at the half. The Lady Indians could never get closer than 10 in the 2nd half as St. Pius pulled away for the 18 point victory.

NaNa Eades led the Lady Indians with 17 points, and Ranajah Verdell added 10 in the loss.

The Lady Indians fall to 4-11 on the season, and 0-2 in Region-8 play. St. Pius improved to 7-9 overall and 1-0 in the Region.

In the boys game, the 3rd ranked team in the state St. Pius outscored Stephens County 27-11 in the 2nd quarter and coasted to a 71-47 win.

Ty Nails was the only Indian in double figures with 21 points. The Indians fall to 11-5 on the season and 1-1 in Region-8 play. St Pius won their 12th straight game and is now 14-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Region.

It will be a quick turnaround for both Stephens County teams when they host Franklin County in non-Region games Saturday night at Currahee Arena. Airtime on WNEG will be 5:45 P.M. with the girls game at 6 and the boys game to follow.
