Sports Wrap for Friday, Nov. 8

The Stephens County Indians football team has the night off tonight before entering the first round of the state playoffs next weekend. 

The Georgia High School Association postponed the start of the state playoffs until November 15 th after Hurricane Helene caused many games to be canceled — many of those games, approximately 50 statewide, will be made up this weekend.

The Indians completed their regular season schedule with an overall record of 6 & 4, and finished third in Region 8-AA with a 3  2 mark. 

Stephens County should find out Sunday who and where they will play—although it is believed they will host a first round game. The GHSA will announce the seedings and brackets for the playoffs.

In other high school sports news, the Stephens County Lady Indians Competition Cheer Team will be at Morgan County Saturday competing for a region title and a bid to the state finals. The Lady Indians are the 3-time defending Region Champions. The State Finals will be held at Macon, Friday, November 15 . Since 2012, Stephens County has gone to state competition 10 out of the last 12 years.

Also, Stephens County will send Lucas Thompson to Carrollton on Saturday for the Class AA State Cross Country Meet. He qualified for the state meet by placing 15th at the Class AA Sectionals Meet last Saturday in Jefferson with a new personal best time of 18:12.29.
