Sports Trainers play Important Roles at SCHS

Sports Trainers play very important roles to student-athletes at Stephens County High School (SCHS), says Travis Dobbs, Supervising Medical Provider for SCHS.

“Our athletic trainers at the high school are all masters level prepared, so they have masters degrees, they get certified by the state, and they’re highly trained and very valuable to our student-athletes. They design conditioning programs, apply protective tapes and braces, teach safe movement techniques, and they kind of act, in the absences that a medical provider is not there, they’re the first medical responder on the field to provide first aid, and manage concussions, and heat stroke. They also assess injuries, determine the severity, and decide if the athlete can safely return to play or if they need referral to a doctor or an orthopedic surgeon. The biggest thing is they act as a middleman for the athletes to coordinate the care between the doctors, coaches, parents, and athletes, and then they also serve a big role, to me the most important role, is doing the rehabilitation after an injury or trying to do nutrition to prevent injuries. So, they’re developing and leading recovery plans to help patients regain strength and range of motion.”

A special thanks to the sports trainers at SCHS for all their hard work and dedication to the safety and health of our student-athletes. Go Indians!
