Shots Fired Near City Water Crew

Shots were fired Thursday morning in the Lake Harbor Shores area of Bruce Rd in Stephens County shot near a City of Toccoa Water Department work crew.

According to reports, the crew was working to repair a water line Thursday morning when bullets were fired. The crew ran across the street and phoned 9-1-1.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the city workers said they heard shots being fired, but never saw anyone shooting at them, nor hear projectiles flying near them, but did hear someone firing in a heavy wooded area.

In Stephens County you are allowed to shoot a gun if you are 150 feet away from a roadway, but never toward anyone.

There were no injuries.

A man was taken into custody on city warrants by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department. The city dropped the warrants and the man was taken for treatment.
