Several GDOT Road Projects ongoing in Toccoa-Stephens County

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several ongoing projects in Toccoa-Stephens County.

According to GDOT’s District One Communications Officer Elizabeth Johnson, the maintenance project on State Route 17, to mill and resurface 3.351 miles of State Route 17 A beginning north of SR 17 and extending east of SR 184. The Georgia DOT contractor CW Matthews began work on November 6 patching and paving side roads.

All patching is complete; however, the contractor has suspended work due to temperature required to pave side roads and mainline. The current expected completion date for this job is February 28, 2023.

Johnson says another project they have been working on is 4.142 miles of milling, resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation on SR 184 beginning north of SR 17 and extending east of SR 184/SR 17A. She says the project was started on November 16; the project contractor is planning to suspend work on patching due to the cold temperatures. The current expected completion date for this maintenance project is January 31, 2023.

The next project according to Johnson is a maintenance project and is almost completed. It includes 3.642 miles of milling, inlay and resurfacing on SR 63 beginning north of SR 17 and extended to SR 419, at Currahee Street. The Georgia DOT contractor is Colditz, and they have almost completed this job with the exception of placing reflective markers and a few items on the corrective list. The current completion date for the remaining items is January 31, 2023.

The final project involving Toccoa-Stephens County, is the SR17 Alt Bridge Replacement which currently has a traffic pattern shift over Toccoa Creek.

Johnson says the Georgia DOT contractor is Williams Contracting and has placed beams last week on the new bridge. The expected completion date is January 5, 2023.
