Seamless Summer meal program starts today

The Seamless Summer meals program will kick-off today in Stephens County.

During the summer months, the program provides a free sack lunch, Monday through Friday, to children 18 and younger in Stephens County.

It may be hard to believe, but there are many children in Stephens county who don’t get enough to eat during the summer months.

Kim Caudell is the Nutrition Director for Stephens County Schools, she says, on average, the school system provides close to 15,000 meals each summer.

She says, there are 8 locations throughout the county where children will be able to pick up their free lunches.

Each day, Monday through Friday, at 10:30 a.m. lunches will be available for pickup at Stephens Drive Apartments and Stephens County Middle School Cafeteria.

At 11:05 a.m. lunches will be available at The Pines Apartments; then at 11:15 a.m. lunches can be picked up at Fern Point.

At 11:40 a.m. lunches will be available for pickup at the Falls Park Apartments and Morgan Place.

Then at noon, lunches can be picked up at Doyle Street Pool.

Lastly, children can pick up lunches at 12:15 at Wood Street.

Stephens County Middle School Cafeteria will provide free breakfast at 8 a.m. each day.

Again, free lunches are provided Monday through Friday, from June 3-28, and July 8-26. There will be no lunches provided the week of July 1-5.

Caudell says there are no forms to fill out and no registration to participate in the program. She adds that children must be present to receive a meal and meals must be consumed on site.
