SCSO Warns of Scam, People Impersonating Law Enforcement Officers
According to a notice provided by Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the sheriff’s office was made aware were made aware yesterday, Dec. 2, of a scam in which an individual is impersonating an employee of the Sheriff’s Office has made several phone calls advising citizens they are in contempt of court.
Shirley stated that the Sheriff’s Office never calls anyone alerting them of criminal charges or pending warrants and says his office is working to identify those responsible for the scheme.
Citizens who receive a phone call from someone claiming to be an employee of the Sheriff’s Office stating they are in contempt of court should notify the Sheriff’s Office at (706) 886-2525. Shirley urges citizens to not give out any personal information, including your Social Security number, date of birth, bank account information, or personal history.
