The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office continues its search for an escaped inmate from Stephens County Jail.

They are using the assistance of canines and a helicopter to locate the fugitive.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, 24-year-old Calvin McCoy escaped from the Stephens County Jail late Wednesday morning.

“The kitchen inmate workers were unloading food from a delivery truck located inside the fenced in lot at the Stephens County Jail,” he said. “While my staff had turned around for just a few seconds, the jail inmate worker ran and climbed over the fence and ran behind the jail. All of my staff were arriving for work, that included by investigators, security and my command staff and other workers. He was seen running toward High View Road. My deputies spoke to one neighbor who said that the inmate had ran through his yard. We were able to immediately widen our perimeter to include Camp Mikell Road, Old Rothell Road, Prather Bridge Road and High View Road.”

At this time, Shirley is advising residents to keep their doors locked, and to keep your children inside, near Camp Mikell, Prather Bridge Road, Old Rothell Road, and Henderson Falls Road.

Shirley says McCoy is a white male, 5’11, weighing 150-lbs.

“Calvin McCoy age 24 is 5’11 and 150-lbs, he has tattoos on his neck area and also a tattoo on his cheek bone. If you see anyone matching this description, please call 911,” he said.  “Also, make sure your doors are locked, your car doors are locked. And anybody in the Camp Mikell area, the Prather Bridge Area, I would have my cars locked and would not allow my children to come out while we are still searching for this individual. I would encourage the citizens living in this area, to please call 911 if they see anyone matching this description. He’s wearing a white t-shirt that would be muddy from being in the creek, tan pants and tennis shoes.”

If you see anyone matching the description please call 911 immediately.
