Scrap Tire Abatement postponed, Amnesty Day Event scheduled

The scrap tire abatement event has been scrapped—for now.

During the recent Stephens County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, the board voted and approved a motion to set May 11 as the Amnesty Day event.

Previously, the county had considered exchanging Amnesty Day with a Scrap Tire Abatement event; however, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers says the county needed to complete additional steps before holding a tire abatement event.

The Amnesty Day event will run from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Stephens County Road Department, located at 1597 Scenic Drive, in Toccoa.

The annual event is an opportunity for every resident of Stephens County to get rid of their junk for free; however, please remember, no tires, liquids or commercial construction materials will be accepted.

All small loose trash must be in garbage bags, and if you have paint cans they must be completely dried out.
