SCMS Football Coach moving to SCHS Varsity Team

By Ken Brady

In Stephens County Middle School (SCMS) football, long-time Head Coach Matt Miller is leaving the middle school team and going to the varsity team at Stephens County High School (SCHS). Miller is only the third head football coach in the history of SCMS, following Frankie Whitworth and Kenny Waters, and has served as head coach for 19 seasons. He has a record of 84-48, including three conference titles and four runner-up finishes. After playing football and graduating from SCHS, Miller played at Tusculum University, and then went on to be an assistant varsity football coach at Southeast Whitfield, Banks County, Sandy Creek, and Franklin County, before coming back to Stephens County. Miller said he’s excited to coach at the varsity level again.

Miller says he’s proud of the many players he has coached at the middle school over the years.

Miller will also be in a new teaching position for the upcoming school year as he will be teaching at the Stephens County Advancement Academy on the campus of the high school.
