SCHS’s Griffin to Run Track at Augusta University

A senior member of the Stephens County High School track team will be running track in college.  Braden Griffin, son of Brad and Mandi Griffin, held a signing ceremony recently at the high school to announce he’ll be attending Augusta University and be a member of their track and field team.  After playing baseball for the Indians as a freshman, Braden switched over to the track team as a sophomore and runs in the 400 and 200 meters.

Braden explains why he decided to go to Augusta University. ” Augusta was originally my top school and when I started getting serious with track last year, I decided that I want to run in college and that was the main thing I pursued. I reached out to the coach there and got to know him. I met him in person at a meet and he offered me to come run there. They have my major, and I always put academics before sports and that is where I wanted to go to school even before I decided to run.”

Braden thanked his coaches for their support. “Coach Caldwell gave me three years of wonderful cross-country seasons. I didn’t expect myself to enjoy cross-country much being a sprinter. It’s the first year for Coach Thigpen and he is really taking it serious and I’m glad that is happening, and Mrs. Fleming has given me a wonderful senior year.”

Braden plans to major in kinesiology and exercise science at Augusta University.
