SCHS’s Gordon, Tankersley Earn High 8-AA Honors

Javin Gordon, a senior running back on the Stephens County High School Indians Football team, has been named the 2024 Region 8-AA Offensive Player of the Year. This makes the second year in a row that Gordon has been named Offensive Player of the Year, having earned the title in 8-AAA in 2023. 

Stephens County Senior Wide Receiver and Defensive Back Brock Tankersley was named the 2024 Region 8-AA Two-Way Player of the year. Tankersley was also named to the 2023 8-AAA Offense First Team. 

Both Gordon and Tankersley were instrumental in the Indians reaching the State Quarterfinals and a 8 & 5 final record this year. 

 The 2024 All-Region Team was announced Sunday, and Stephens County placed a total of 12 players on the 1st and 2nd teams, along with five Honorable Mentions.

Named to the 2024 First Team Offense were Senior quarterback Tripp Underwood, Senior Wide Receiver Jonah Swinton, Junior Wide Receiver Davon Swinton, and Senior offensive Lineman Joc Brown. Underwood was named to the 2023 8-AAA First Team Offense, while both Johan and Davon Swinton were named to the 2023 8-AAA First Team Defense. 

Named to the 2024 First Team Defense were Senior Defensive Lineman Jakob Lunsford, Senior Linebacker Garrett Addison, and Junior Place Kicker Luke Waters. Lunsford was also named to the 2023 8-AAA Second Team Defense, while Waters was named 2023 8-AAA First Team Punter and Addison was a 2023 8-AAA Honorable Mention. 

Named to the 2024 Second Team Offense was Junior Offensive Lineman Luke Sosebee.

Named to the 2024 Second Team Defense were Junior Defensive Lineman Kymani Colbert, Sophomore Linebacker Morris Perkins, Junior Linebacker Zykemian Durham, and Senior Defensive Back Jeremiah Scott. 

Indian players named honorable mentions were Junior Tight End and Halfback Findley Ward, Sophomore Defensive Back Ashton Winters, Junior Defensive Lineman Conner Holtzclaw, Senior Defensive Lineman Kamari McCarter and Freshman Defensive Back Duke Collins.
