SCHS Varsity Basketball Teams lose to Hebron Christian

In Stephens County High School (SCHS) varsity basketball, the Hebron Christian Lions girls’ and boys’ teams both scored victories Friday night over the Indians and Lady Indians at the Currahee Arena.

The Lions had 11 players score on the night in cruising to an 81-23 win over Stephens County. Gabby Minus had 13 points to lead the Lady Lions, while Kobi Barnes had 12.

Only three Lady Indians scored Friday night; Saige Weckesser led the Lady Indians with 10 points, Emma K. Powell had 9 points, and Nesi Verdell had 5 points. 

The Lady Lions lead the Region 8-AA standings with an 8-0 record while Stephens County‘s record is 8-14 overall and 2-6 in region play.

In the boys’ game, Devon McField had 21 points, and Lukas Romine had 20 as the Lions defeated the Indians 80-43.

Two players for the Indians scored in double-figures, Isiah Patterson led the team with 18 points, and Colsen Ivey chipped in with 14.

Hebron’s boys are undefeated in region play with an 8-0 record while the Indians are 1-7.

Next up for the Indians will be the final home game of the regular season when the Hart County Bulldogs come in on Tuesday, February 10. Game time is 6 p.m. and broadcast time on WNEG will be 5:45 p.m.

Team members from ladies’ and men’s basketball teams from the 1970s to the present were recognized at the half of both games.
