SCHS Track at AA Sectional B Meet

The Stephens County High School (SCHS) Track and Field Teams competed at the AA Sectional B Track Meet last Saturday (5/3) at East Jackson High School in Commerce.  This Meet served as a State qualifier, and Stephens County will be sending 8 girls and 7 boys to the GHSA Class AA State Championship Meet. 

Highlights in the meet included Hallee Shirley qualifying in the 100 meter dash as the first SCHS girl sprinter to go to state since 2010; Calista Curtis winning the Triple Jump with a School Record jump of 36 feet; Kell Tukes (300 Meter Hurdles), Kinsley Thomason (Pole Vault), and Carley Funderburke (Discus) qualifying for state as the first SCHS girls to ever qualify in those events; Yasir Myles qualifying in the 110 Meter Hurdles with an SCHS Junior Record time of 16.49; Isaiah Arthur qualifying for the 300 Meter Hurdles with the fastest SCHS time since 1992 (41.69); and the Boys 4×800 Relay (Lucas Thompson, Brendan Crone, Landyn “Skeeter” Godsoe, Pierre Kouadio) qualifying for state with a school Record time of 8:56.33. They are the first boys to qualify for state in that event. Also going to state are the Girls 4×200 Relay (Shirley, Tukes, Chelsea Yost, and Brianna Williams), the Girls 4×400 Relay (Tukes, Yost, Kylee Glaze, Shirley), and Joc Brown (Shot Put). 

The GHSA Class AA State Championship Meet will be held at East Jackson High School on Friday, May 9th and Saturday, May 10th.
