SCHS Swept By White Co. In Basketball

White County sweeps Stephens County in weeknight basketball.

Tuesday, the Indians and Lady Indians made the trip west to Cleveland for games against the Warriors and Lady Warriors.

In the girls’ game, Stephens County shot under 20 percent from the field in a 34-22 loss to White County.

The Lady Indians did not score more than seven points in a quarter as White County pulled away late to secure the win.

Emily Mote led Stephens County with 7 points, while Paige Thomas had 13 points to lead the Lady Warriors.

Moving to the boys’ game, Stephens County was within three points just before halftime.

However, the Warriors scored the next 18 points to build a comfortable lead they would not relinquish en route to a 76-60 win over the Indians.

White County put three players in double figures as Whit Mauney scored 20 points, Will Gearing scored 18 points, and Bradley Hurst added 17 points.

Nunu Walker scored 17 points and Tay Jones added eight to pace the Indian attack.

With the losses, the Lady Indians drop to 1-1 on the year and the Indian boys are now 0-2.

While White County is a region opponent, this game did not count in the region standings.

Stephens County’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are back on the road this Friday night, as they make the trip to Oakwood to take on Johnson of Gainesville.

Air time Friday night is 6:45 p.m. on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com.
