SCHS Lady Indians soccer team falls to Morgan County, 2-1

The Stephens County Lady Indians soccer team lost in the 2nd round of the state tournament Monday night at Morgan County, 2 to 1.

In the second half, Morgan County scored first with a corner kick.  But late in the second half, Stephens County’s Madison Strickland scored a goal to tie it up at 1 to 1.

With the score still tied at the end of regulation, the contest went into 2 overtime periods.

The tied score led to penalty kicks.

Julia Knight, Stephens County’s third kicker, scored the only goal for the Lady Indians, but Morgan County outscored Stephens County and won the game.

The Lady Indians finished with a record of 8 & 9, and made the second round of the state playoffs for the second consecutive year.

The Lady Indians tennis team defeated Sonoraville High School Monday afternoon in the 1st round of the state playoffs. The final score was 3-0.

Stephens County won with number 1 doubles team of Tenley Boyd and Kaylin Snyder, number 2 doubles team of Erin Terrell and Abby Whitfield, and number one singles player, Makiya Hutto.

The Stephens County girls will now advance to the second round of the state playoffs to play the winner of Crisp County and Harlem.

The Stephens County boy’s tennis team will play their 1st round match today as they host Murray County at the SCHS Tennis Complex beginning at 3 pm.
