SCHS Lady Indians fall, Indians defeat Monroe Area teams

The Stephens County Lady Indians missed thirteen free throws in the fourth quarter Monday night, helping the Lady Hurricanes of Monroe Area to a 43-34 victory at the Currahee Arena.  Altogether, the Lady Indians went 10 for 33 at the charity stripe, while Monroe’ girls were 19 of 25.

My’Angel Carter led the Stephens County girls with 15 points. The Lady Indians are now 1-18 on the season and 0-4 in region play.  Monroe Area won their first region game after three losses and put their overall record at 6-13.

The Stephens County boys picked up their first region win by downing the Monroe Area boys 66-51.  Tyrece Mackie led all scorers with 21 points.  Corey Richie had 17 and Jasec Smith chipped in with 11 points. Stephens County’s boys outscored Monroe Area 27-13 in the third quarter to pull away for the victory after leading by four at the half.

Coach Jeremy Hughes’ boys are now 1-3 in the region and 4-15 for the season.

The next game for the Indians and Lady Indians will be Wednesday evening at East Jackson.  The game was moved to Wednesday when the Indians were forced to play Monday night.  Game time at East Jackson will be 6PM and air time on WNEG will be 5:45PM.
