SCHS Indians win Pitcher’s Duel with Franklin County
By Ted Taylor
In Stephens County High School (SCHS) Varsity Baseball, it was an old-fashioned pitching duel between Hayden Scott of the Stephens County Indians and Easton Gailey of the Franklin County Lions as they battled through seven innings with the Indians scraping out a 1-0 win Wednesday evening at the Reservation.
Findley Ward knocked in Konnor Loudermilk with a double in the second inning for the only run of the game. Scott allowed four hits and struck out three. Gailey scattered eight hits and struck out two and walked just one.
The Indians played excellent defense Wednesday night which helped them to their 18th win for an overall record of 18-5 and 8-3 in Region 8-AA. In the fifth inning with Lions runners on first and third, a Lion hit a line drive that Finley Ward grabbed and tagged out the runner at third for an unassisted double play. Scott picked another runner off of first base to bring the sixth inning to a close.
With the win, the Indians are now in second place in Region 8-AA with an 8-3 record and have won six games in a row. Franklin County is now 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the region.
The final game of the three-game series will be Friday in Carnesville.
Game time is set for 5:55 p.m. with airtime at 5:45 p.m. on WNEG.
