SCHS Indians headed to Burke County for Second round of AAA State Football Playoffs

The Stephens County Indians will travel to Waynesboro, south of Augusta, tonight to play the Burke County Bears in the second round of the AAA state football playoffs.

Kickoff will be at 7:30.

Stephens County defeated Rockmart on the road last Friday night, 27 to 13, to advance into the second round.

The Indians enter tonight’s game with an 8 & 3 record, and are in the second round for the first time since 2014.

Burke County advanced into the second round with a 48 to 21 win over Mary Persons last Friday.

The Bears are the number 2 team from Region 4-AAA and have a record of 8 & 2. Burke County is in the state playoffs for the 15th consecutive year.

This is the first meeting between Stephens County and Burke County in football.

Last night on the Crunch Time radio show, Stephens County’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, Jerry Underwood, said as the Indians advance in the state playoffs, the teams will get tougher.

Other Region 8-AAA teams playing tonight in the 2nd round of state playoffs:  Oconee County will travel to Crisp County and Monroe Area will host Peach County.

Other area teams playing in the 2nd round:  Rabun County will host Jeff Davis, Cherokee Bluff will host Appling County, Flowery Branch will play at Perry, North Oconee will host Spalding, and Clarke Central will host Starr’s Mill.
