SCHS holds Football Banquet and Awards Ceremony

Stephens County High School (SCHS) held its annual Football Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Sunday afternoon, February 8.  Each player on the varsity and JV teams was recognized. All of the seniors received plaques, and players named to the All-Region received certificates.

Special recognition was also given to those who were named All-State by the AJC or Recruit Georgia.  Morris Perkins, linebacker; Conner Holtzclaw, defensive lineman; Da’von Swinton, wide receiver; and Luke Waters, kicker and punter, were named to the Recruit Georgia All-State Team. Luke Waters was also named to the AJC All-State 1st team in Class AA.

WNEG presented its Player of the Year Award to senior Luke Waters, who tied the school record for longest field goal at 53 yards, and did it twice during the season. He was also perfect in extra points, hitting 30 out of 30, and had a punting average of 39 yards.    

The Trigger Thomason “Strive and Drive” Award was given to senior wide receiver Eli St. Clair.

The Keaton Thompson “Effort-Attitude-Toughness” Award was presented to senior offensive lineman Luke Sosebee.

Two Stephens County Assistant Coaches will be retiring at the end of the school year: Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Jerry Underwood, as well as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Line Coach Brad Whitfield. They were presented with special plaques commemorating their years of service to the Indians’ Football Program. 

After the Awards Ceremony, SCHS Head Football Coach Thomas Flowers said it was a great time to honor the seniors for their hard work this past season.      

The Indians finished the season with a record of 6-6 and reached the second round of the state playoffs, which was the fifth consecutive season the Indians have qualified for the state playoffs.
