SCHS Girls Basketball Coach Resigns

Stephens County High School Athletic Director Chuck King has announced that Stephens County High School Girls Basketball Coach Laura Baker has resigned.

King announced the resignation in a press release stating that “Coach Baker has decided to take some time off from coaching.” Baker’s statement in the release reads “After five years of being the head coach of the Lady Indians Basketball program, I have decided to step away for personal matters.” Baker adds “It has been a great experience to coach and teach these young ladies for the past five years. The current ladies and the alumni (who are always Lady Indians) will always hold a special place in my heart. I want to thank the Stephens County community for the support you have shown and given these ladies throughout my years.”

This past season completed the 22nd year of coaching for Baker who spent time at George Walton Academy and Franklin County before taking the head job at Stephens County. The Lady Indians struggled the last two years winning a total of 4 games. Baker compiled a record of 49-80 overall and led the Lady Indians to the state quarterfinal round in 2021.

King says that Baker will ” continue to grow our students of Stephens County within her teaching duties and responsibilities.”
