SCHS Basketball Teams split with Lions

The Stephens County Indians Boys basketball team survived a night of turnovers, and a pesky Franklin County team, and picked up a road win over their rival 84-76 Tuesday night at the Lions Den in Carnesville.

The Indians placed four in double figures with Montavious Thornton leading the way with 20 points, Ty Nails scored 19 points, Chaz Bridges added 16 points, including 5-three pointers, and Deundra Singleton added 15.

Franklin County was led by Zach Gay with 19 points.

The #8 ranked Indians trailed by as many as seven in the first half, but a late first half run gave them a 4 point lead at the break.

The Indians started the third quarter hot and led by as many as 14, but Franklin County continued to make runs and got as close as 4 points with just under a minute in the game.

With the win the Indians go to 2-0 on the season. Franklin County falls to 1-3.

In the girls contest, Franklin County used a suffocating full court press to jump out to a 16-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, and never looked back on their way to a 62-20 win over the Lady Indians.

Franklin County’s Mya Jones led all scorers with 12 points. Tykia Thompson led Stephens County with 8.

The Lady Indians fall to 3-2 on the season.

The Stephens County JV Boys took a 10 point victory over Franklin County in the early game.

Both Stephens County varsity teams will be in action again on Friday at home in Currahee Arena when Stephens County hosts Habersham Central. Airtime is set for 6:45 P.M. on 93.1 FM and AM-630 WNEG, and at wnegradio.com.
