SCHS Basketball Teams lose to Prince Avenue

In Stephens County High School (SCHS) varsity basketball, the Indians and Lady Indians both lost their final games of the regular season at Prince Avenue Christian on Friday night, February 13. 

In the girls’ game, it was a very competitive contest as the Lady Indians only trailed by 3 at the half, 30-27, led by Ivey Jackson scoring 12 of her game total of 18 points. The Lady Indians stayed close most of the third period, but Prince Avenue pulled away for a 61-48 victory. Lanesia Verdell contributed 10 points, and Jasmine Russell added 8. 

Stephens County finishes the regular season with an 8-16 record and a region mark of 2-8. Prince Avenue finishes with a record of 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the region. So the Lady Indians, seeded 5th, will play Prince Avenue, seeded 4th, again Monday afternoon, February 16, in the first round of the Region 8-AA Tournament, which will be played at Prince Avenue Christian.  Game time will be 4 p.m.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County fell behind early and lost to Prince Avenue, 62-36. The Indians actually outscored Prince Avenue in the fourth period, 12-6, but it was not enough to make a comeback. Stephens County was led by Jayden Haynie with 10 points and Isiah Patterson with 8. 

The Indian boys finish the regular season with a 4-21 record overall and 1-9 in region play.  Prince Avenue finishes with a 17-8 record and a region mark of 5-5.  Stephens County will enter the 1st round of the Region 8-AA Tournament as the number 5 seed and will play Hart County at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Prince Avenue Christian.  Prince Avenue will be seeded number 3 and will play the sixth seed, East Jackson, at 8:30 Monday night.  The other game on the schedule at Monday’s Region Tournament has Franklin County girls, seeded number 3, taking on the sixth seed, East Jackson
