SCHS Basketball Splits with N. Oconee

The Stephens County Lady Indian basketball team will head into the second half of the Region 8-AAAA schedule at the top of the standings.

Down by nine points early in the second half, the Lady Indians rallied and held on to beat North Oconee Tuesday in Bogart, 61-58.

The Lady Indians made 28 of 41 free throws overall and 18 of 28 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Na Na Eades led Stephens County with 20 points, while Savanna Broska scored 17 points and Renajah Verdell added 12 points. The win moves the Lady Indians to 15-5 overall and 3-1 in region play.

Ansley Hall led the Lady Titans with 34 points, and the loss drops North Oconee’s girls to 12-8 overall and 0-4 in the region.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County led early, but North Oconee fought back and took the lead for good in the fourth quarter on the way to a 58-53 win.

Chris Sinclair scored 16 points to lead the Indians, while Mucha Trimier and Tyrece Mackie each scored nine.

Dylan Garrington led North Oconee with 18 points and Jace Saxton added 10 points.

The loss drops the Indian boys to 7-13 overall and 1-3 in the region, while North Oconee moves to 7-12 overall and 3-1 in the region.

Stephens County returns to the road Friday night for region play at Madison County. The girls’ game will tip off at 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow. Air time Friday on WNEG is set for 6:45 p.m.
