SCHS Basketball Drops 3 of 4 Over Weekend
The Stephens County Lady Indian basketball team bounced back from its first region loss on Friday with a win over a rival on Saturday.
Friday night, the Lady Indians led by four points in the fourth quarter, but Oconee County ended the game on a 10-0 run to win 43-33 in region play in Watkinsville.
Renajah Verdell led the Lady Indians on Friday with 12 points.
Moving to Saturday, the Lady Indians hit nine three-pointers and pulled away in the second half to tame the Franklin County Lady Lions, 51-33.
Savanna Broska scored 11 points on Saturday to lead the Lady Indians and Verdell added 10 points.
The weekend split puts the Lady Indians at 14-5 overall on the season and 2-1 in region play.
On the boys’ side, the Indians dropped a pair of games over the weekend.
First on Friday, Stephens County’s boys lost to Oconee County, 62-56.
Chris Sinclair led the Indians on Friday with 16 points.
On Saturday, the Indians stayed with Franklin County and sent the game to overtime tied at 53 on a Sinclair three-pointer with one minute left, but Franklin County scored the last 8 points in overtime to win 61-55.
Kenny Colwell hit six second-half three-pointers on Saturday to pace the Indians with 23 points.
The two losses over the weekend drop the Indians to 7-12 overall and 1-2 in region play.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams for Stephens County return to action on Tuesday on the road at North Oconee in a region game. Air time on Tuesday is set for 5:45 p.m. with tip-off at 6 p.m.
