SCHS AD thanks First Responders after Serious Injury during Varsity Football Game

Stephens County High School (SCHS) Athletic Director Eric Sutulovich is thanking trainers, first responders, and fans for their efforts after a serious injury occurred during SCHS’s first home varsity football game of the season on Friday, September 4, versus Union County.

“A young man for Union was injured. He had lost feeling in part of his legs, and our paramedics, our trainer, the fire department, the police department, I mean everybody was there to help. It was really a complete operation of a bunch of people coming together to help this young man. I felt like from where my view was, it went really well as far as being coordinated, being able to get this young man the help he needed, and then was taken by helicopter to the hospital. Everybody working together, pulling together, and it started with our trainers, then it went to our paramedics. It was a complete operation that appeared to me to be a very solid one because you really can’t prepare for things like that, although you try to. I want to say too, our fans, our coaches, our team, our cheerleaders, as well as Union; everybody stopped to pray for this young man, and I’m really proud of them for doing those things. I did get word, I don’t know this officially, but it sounds like he’s got feeling back, and he’s been able to walk. Thank God! There’s still probably some things that have to happen before he can get on the football field. Again, I don’t have firsthand knowledge of this, but I’m just thankful that he’s ok because that is scary for everyone. Scary obviously for him, but it’s scary for us too, and I just felt like everything went as good as we could get it in the situation we were in, and everybody was pitching in. Everybody was trying to do the best they could. I’m just really proud of the Indian Nation and everything that everybody did to do the best we could to help this young man.”

Another Union County player suffered a concussion and was taken by ambulance to the hospital after the game. Reports are that he too is recovering.
