SCBOE will meet today to consider transferring funds for the cannery

The Stephens County Board of Education will meet later today to consider a motion reallocating system funds to cover the cost to operate the Eastanollee Cannery.

The board met last week to discuss the proposed transfer.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, the board will need to approve a transfer of $50,000 to fund the cost to run the cannery.

This proposed transfer should ensure the cannery remains open for another year.

As many will remember, the Board of Education voted on a motion allocating funds to keep the Eastanollee Cannery open in August of 2018.

During the meeting last year, Board Member Mark Smith recommended the board adjust the budget to fund the cannery. At that time, the board approved a transfer of $50,000 which has allowed the cannery to remain open to date.

Again, the board will meet today, December 11, at 5:30 p.m. inside the Stephens County School System Office.
