SCBOE expected to transfer $50K to fund Eastanollee Cannery

The Stephens County Board of Education met on Wednesday for its work session.

One item the board discussed was reallocating system funds to cover the cost to operate the Eastanollee Cannery.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, the board will need to approve a transfer of $50,000 to fund the cost to run the cannery.

The board is expected to vote on the transfer during its regular scheduled meeting next week.

This proposed transfer should ensure the cannery remains open for another year.

As many will remember, the Board of Education voted on a motion allocating funds to keep the Eastanollee Cannery open in August of 2018.

During the meeting last year, Board Member Mark Smith recommended the board adjust the budget to fund the cannery. At that time, the board approved a transfer of $50,000 which has allowed the cannery to remain open to date.

Again, the board will meet on Wednesday, December 11, at 5:30 p.m. inside the Stephens County School System Office.
