SCBOE approves transfer of funds to cover cost to operate Eastanollee Cannery

The Stephens County Board of Education approved a motion to transfer $50,000 to cover the cost to operate the Eastanollee Cannery during its regular scheduled meeting on Wednesday.

The board met last week to discuss the proposed transfer, and during last night’s meeting, the board unanimously approved the transfer.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, the board needed to approve a transfer of $50,000 to fund the cost to run the cannery.

This transfer should ensure the cannery remains open for another year.

As many will remember, the Board of Education voted on a motion allocating funds to keep the Eastanollee Cannery open in August of 2018.

During the meeting last year, Board Member Mark Smith recommended the board adjust the budget to fund the cannery. At that time, the board approved a transfer of $50,000 which has allowed the cannery to remain open to date.
