SCBOE approves grant initiative for opioid affected youth

The Stephens County Board of Education approved a grant initiative to help opioid affected youth during its meeting on Tuesday.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham the Stephens County School System is partnering with Family Connections, Stephens County Juvenile Justice Department, Social Empowerment, and HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens to develop a local, data-driven coordinated response to identify and address challenges resulting from opioid abuse.

He says, the partnership will positively impact the youth at risk of opioid misuse.

Oldham explained that the school system has dedicated $20,000 for Social Empowerment.

Board Member Mark Smith made a motion approving the initiative with Board Member Len Stovall seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
