SCBC will meet today for regular scheduled meeting

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet this morning for its regular scheduled meeting and work session.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is being conducted through teleconference.

Up for consideration is a motion to authorize Chairman Dennis Bell to sign the Fiscal Year 2020 Mauldin and Jenkins Engagement Letter for the 2020 audit.

Each year, the county enlists the expertise of an Auditing Firm to come in and audit the county financial statements to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, generally accepted government auditing standards, and federal and state regulations.

In other business, the board will consider a motion to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Veterans Service to provide office space from July 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

The Toccoa Veterans Service Office is currently housed inside the Stephens County Historic Courthouse, in downtown Toccoa.

Additionally, the board will hold two land use public hearings.

The first is for a rezoning request from Josh Schaefer, for the property located at 1686 Falls Road currently zoned as Commercial General. The proposed action to be taken is to rezone the property to Residential Single Family.

The second hearing is for a variance request from Josh Schaefer, for the same property located at 1686 Falls Road, the proposed action is to grant a lot size variance of less than one acre.

Again, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet this morning at 8:30 a.m. by teleconference.
