SCBC will meet today for regular scheduled meeting

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing for the first reading of an amendment to the Buildings and Building Regulations Ordinance today during its regular scheduled meeting.

The Commission will meet today at 5:30 p.m. by teleconference. Anyone wishing to attend today’s meeting can dial-in at 425-436-6345. After dialing in you’ll be prompted to input the code 585174.

As WNEG News told you last month, the Commission has been considering the amendment to Article III, Section 18.71 (a)(2), which currently reads: a building permit is not required for less than 150 square feet; however, the change will now require building permits for structures less than 150 square feet.

During the Commission’s meeting last month County Administrator Phyllis Ayers presented the item for discussion and explained that County Clerk Beth Rider, who issues building permits, has been charging for permits regardless if the building was less than 150 square feet.

Rider explained that charging everyone a fee for a building permit, regardless of the square footage, was the only way to keep up with the permits.

Commissioner Dennis Bell made a motion approving the amendment with Vice Chair James Addison seconding the motion.

Commissioner Debbie Whitlock opposed the motion.

Despite Whitlock’s opposition, the motion passed 4-1.

Again, the Commission will meet this evening, at 5:30 p.m. for the first reading of the change to the ordinance.
