SCBC submit 3 new nominees to be considered for SCHA

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners has selected three new nominees to be considered for the expired seat of Stan Roberts on the Stephens County Hospital Authority.

During the Commissioner meeting on Tuesday, the board nominated Stan Roberts, Sherry Beavers, and Elaine Martin.

Commissioner Michelle Ivester spoke during the meeting about the previous three nominees that were rejected by the hospital authority.

“This doesn’t give me a warm, fuzzy feeling,” Ivester said. “I felt like personally, the names that we submitted, were outstanding citizens. And I never got an answer or clarification as to why any of them were rejected. I just feel like we owe it to them, to give them an explanation for why they were rejected. I mean, we had one that we nominated that actually went to Atlanta and fought for hospital bills and served on the Governor’s tax credit task force. So, I don’t think it’s fair to our citizens when we nominate someone and they get rejected, I just think that we owe it to them to let them know why they were rejected.”

Last week, the Stephens County Hospital Authority selected Bill McDougal to fill the expired seat of Max Brock, however, they rejected all three original nominations the county submitted to fill the expired seat of Stan Roberts.

The original nominations were as follows: Rick Phillips, Tommy Moon, and Woody Blasingame.

However, because the authority rejected those three, the county commission’s next step was to submit three new nominations.

Following Ivester’s comment, the board voted and approved the three new nominees.

The motion was approved unanimously.

The Stephens County Hospital Authority is expected to meet in a forthcoming meeting to select one of the nominees from the list to fill the expired seat.
