SCBC sets meeting dates, reappoint county staff and assign county commissioners to boards during meeting on Tuesday

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday for its first meeting of the new year; during which, the board made motions reappointing county staff and assigning the county commissioners to their specific boards and committees for the year.

The board reappointed Beth Rider to County Clerk and reappointed the Law Offices of Sanders, Ranck and Skilling as County Attorney.

Commissioner Dennis Bell and Chairperson Michelle Ivester spoke about how good of a job County Attorney Brian Ranck does.

The commission then set the meeting dates for 2021.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers presented the item.

“Board to consider motion to set time and place for work sessions and regular meetings to continue on second and fourth Tuesday of each month, the first meeting work session to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow; the second meeting work session to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the regular meeting to follow; and one meeting be held the second Tuesday in December at 8:30 a.m. and authorize chairman to sign resolution,” she said.

A motion was made by Commissioner Dean Scarborough approving the meeting resolution with Vice Chair James Addison seconding the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

The board then made Commission appointments for various boards.

Ivester was appointed to the Stephens County Development Authority; Commissioner Debbie Whitlock was appointed to the Health Board; Ivester was appointed to the Airport Authority; Addison was appointed to the Chamber of Commerce; Whitlock and Bell were appointed to Roads and Bridges; Scarborough and Bell were appointed to the Buildings and Grounds; Whitlock and Bell were appointed to the E911 Advisory Board; Whitlock and Addison were appointed to Joint Services; Whitlock and Bell were appointed to Emergency Services; Ivester was appointed to the Stephens County Soil and Water Conservation; Scarborough was appointed to the Georgia Mountain Regional Commission; Addison and Ivester were appointed to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter; Addison was appointed to the Chestatee-Chattahoochee RC&D Council; and Addison and Bell were appointed to Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful.

The appointments were approved unanimously.

Ayers was reappointed to serve as Budget Officer for Fiscal Year 2022.

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners next meeting will be held on January 26 at 5:30 p.m.
