SCBC sets April 15 as Amnesty Day

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners has set the date for the 2023 Amnesty Day event.

During the recent Stephens County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, County Administrator Christian Hamilton explained that the county is recommending Amnesty Day be held on April 15.

A motion setting April 15th as Amnesty Day in Stephens County was made by Vice-Chair Tara Simmons.

The motion was approved unanimously.

The Amnesty Day event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stephens County Public Works Department, located at 1597 Scenic Drive, in Toccoa.

Amnesty Day gives residents an opportunity to dump their junk for free.

Amnesty Day is a perfect time for you and your neighbors to get rid of junk in and around your home, garage, or yard including furniture, mattresses, carpet, grills, toys, appliances, if you’re not using it, get rid of it.

All small loose trash must be in garbage bags, and remember no tires, no liquids, no commercial construction materials, no limbs, or dry brush and only dried out paint cans.

No junk from outside Stephens County will be allowed. All vehicles must have a Stephens County Tag.

Officials will be onsite checking vehicle tags at the entrance of the Public Works Department.

If you have an out-of-town-tag, to prove your residency please bring a piece of mail, such as a utility bill, and your driver’s license or ID with your Stephens County address.
