Sara Janette Steele

Sara Janette Steele, age 78, of Merritts Community, Toccoa, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Sara was born July 10, 1947, in Toccoa, Georgia, to the late Farris and Mary Lee Steele. She was Valedictorian and Star Student of the Stephens County High School Class of 1965.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Georgia College (now the University of North Georgia) in Dahlonega.  She earned a Master of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Sara taught at North Georgia College (UNG) from 1972 until her retirement in 2001.  She was named Professor of the Year in 1986. Sara served as pianist and former clerk of Old Toccoa Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Stephens County Historical Society and Corresponding Secretary of the Toccoa Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

Sara is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Dudley Arvle Huber of Toccoa; a nephew, John Huber and Jackie of Hoschton, Georgia; a niece, Heather Huber Erickson and Kurt of Anderson, South Carolina; two great-nieces, Kimberly Buono and Abi of Centennial, Colorado and Katherine Delaney and Robert of Hoschton, Georgia; great-grand-nephew, Brayden Delaney; great-grand niece, Riley Delaney; a great-nephew, AO3 Ethan Erickson of San Diego, California.

Memorial services will be Saturday, October 4, 2025, 2 pm in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Clyde Hampton and The Reverend Scott Alexander officiating.

Inurnment will follow in the Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Sara Janette Steele.
