Sandy Bruce Simpson

Loving husband and father, Sandy Bruce Simpson passed away unexpectedly on May 21st, 2023, while in Florida at the age of 76.

Sandy was born on February 7th, 1947, to Harley and Lucille Simpson in Toccoa, Georgia.  After graduating from Stephens County High School, he went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force.  In 1969, he met Paula and they wed in 1970.  They endearingly spent 53 years together and had 3 children.

Following his enlistment with the USAF, Sandy devotedly served his community as a life-long police officer.  He continued to serve his country by enlisting in the Air National Guard.  He retired from the ANG in 2003 and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in 2010.

In 2010, Sandy and Paula became “snowbirds” living ½ the year in Florida and ½ the year in their hometown of Simpsonville, SC.  During the year, they continued to travel the United States while having experiences and making memories only few of us will ever do.

Sandy was a devout Catholic always ready to share his faith.  He was a devoted husband who admired and loved Paula every minute of every day.  He was an amazing father who was always there for his children to lend support and humor.  Sandy was elated to be a grandpa to his 8 grandchildren (Breanna Jones, Emma Templeton, Walker Templeton, Leah Hurley, Clara Hurley, Kaeden Simpson, Killian Simpson, and Harleigh Simpson) and great-grandpa to his 4 great-grandchildren (Aiken Jones, Lola Jones, Rayleigh Puleo, and Elora Puleo).

Sandy touched many lives.  He was loud, boisterous, politically incorrect, and oh so joyous.  He was always ready to make those around him feel loved and included through laughter and acts of true kindness.  He loved God.  He cherished his family.  He thrived on serving others.  His laughter, his jokes, his kindness, and his passion to help others will be forever missed.

Sandy was predeceased by his mother, Lucille and father, Harley.  He is survived by his wife, Paula, his children: Debbie Templeton (Scott), Jenifer Hurley (Tony), and Justin Simpson (Faelyn); his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his brother Dale Simpson (Cindy).

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 5, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rafka Maronite Catholic Church at 1215 Hwy 14 Greer, SC 29650.  A burial with military honors will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery at 140 Inway Dr. Anderson, SC 29621.
