Rotary Top 5 Banquet Tonight

The Toccoa Rotary Club’s Top 5 Banquet is being held tonight at 6 P.M. at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center. Toccoa Rotary Club President Stacy Miller says the honoring of the students has been a mainstay for the club. “The Rotary Top 5 program is designed to recognize the top five percent of the SCHS graduating class each year; says Miller, “It has been in existence in Stephens County since 1962 and scholarships have been presented to each honoree since 1980. This year’s group will receive awards of $1000.”

Twelve Stephens County high school seniors will be honored and presented with scholarships from the Rotary Club. Miller says the club also honors students in the lower grades as well. “Recognition is also given to the top 5 students in grades 6-8. The program is designed to reward the graduating students and stimulate the younger students to increased academic efforts as they enter high school.”

Again, the Toccoa Rotary Club Top 5 banquet is tonight at 6 P.M. at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center. The guest speaker for the event will be Dr. John Delaney. WNEG will have comments from tonight’s Top 5 banquet as well as a list of students on Wednesday’s news.
