Review of 2017: City grants

Continuing this week’s Year in Review, the City of Toccoa received $1.8 million in grant funds for a variety of projects.

The largest project which was the completion of the Veteran Memorial Parkway using $1.3 million of the grant funds.

City Financial Director Becky Bohannon told WNEG News about the projects that were completed because of the grants received.

Bohannon added that the Veteran Memorial Parkway needed sewer connections and lines ran, in order to complete the parkway.

She continued by saying that the County was instrumental in matching a portion of the grant in order for the parkway to be completed.

Bohannon also spoke of the significance of the LMIG or the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grants, she also added that the city also received an LMIG grant that is specifically given to improve road safety, which prompted the installation of a new guard rail on White Pines Road near Stephens County High School.

2017 was a strong year for the city of Toccoa; especially regarding grants, the leadership, employees, and elected officials, ensure that its residences’ tax dollars are stretched as far as possible, thus resulting in the multiple grants the city has been awarded.
