Reese Jones Payne

Reese Jones Payne, age 84 of Springfield, Tennessee passed peacefully in his home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

Born September 2, 1936 in Carnesville, Georgia to the late John Burruss and Rachel Banks Payne, the family was of the Methodist faith. His brother, Harold Ross Payne, also preceded him in death.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving 1960-1964, where he worked with computers, before they were a common household item. Reese graduated and met his wife Emily at Young Harris College in 1955 and completed his education after his service at Georgia State. Reese was a passionate lifelong “car man” working originally in finance, before becoming an auto wholesaler and spending over 50 years in the Nashville automobile business. He was a friend of Bill W. and was a humble servant for 32 years in the recovery community, especially with the Alumni of Cumberland Heights, always giving back what had been given to him.

Surviving him are his wife of 63 years, Emily Larmore Payne; son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Mary Frank Payne; daughter, Lisa Jones, all of Springfield; sister-in-law, Fannie Payne of Toccoa, GA and grandchildren, Allyson (Charles) Payne Manfredi, Rachel Payne, Reese Payne and Harrison Long.

His remains were cremated, and no public services are scheduled.

Robertson County Funeral Home in charge of arrangements, and the family requests any donations to be made to Cumberland Heights in Reese Payne’s honor.
