Raiders Sweep Indians in Hoops on Saturday

The Stephens County Lady Indians came up just short in their bid for a second straight win, dropping a close game Saturday on the road at Habersham Central.

After falling behind 10-1 in the first period, the Lady Indians fought back to within two points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Raiders won, 33-28.

A’Niya Mayweather led the Lady Indians with 14 points and three other players had four points each. Meanwhile, Kyia Barrett led Habersham Central with 18 points and Jazky Bantaum had 11 points for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Indians dropped to 1-3 with the loss.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County led early, but Habersham Central used strong second and third quarters to pull away and defeat the Indians, 61-39.

Trailing by two after one quarter, the Raiders outscored Stephens County 18-10 in the second quarter and 17-6 in the third quarter on the way to victory.

Corey Richie led the Indians with 14 points and Cam Lacy had six points. Bryce Pittman led the Raiders with 20 points and Josiah McCurry added 17 points.

The Indian boys are now 0-2 on the year.

Stephens County’s boys will play at home against Elbert County on Tuesday at 6 p.m. WNEG’s next broadcast will be Saturday when Habersham Central visits the Currahee Arena to take on Stephens County.
