Raiders Roll in Battle of Currahee Mountain
Habersham Central senior quarterback Paris Wilbanks had three first half rushing touchdowns and added another in the 2nd half to lead the Raiders to a 45-7 win over Stephens County Friday night in Mt. Airy.
Habersham Central’s Kieran Wallace kicked a 34-yard field goal to get the scoring going, but the Indians took the next possession and finished the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run by Ashton Winters.
Wilbanks touchdown runs of 7, 5, and 10 yards gave the Raiders a 24-7 halftime lead.
Wilbanks added another touchdown on an 18-yard run in the 3rd quarter. Kinley Bee had a 2-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter and Braden Shook got the final score late in the game.
Stephens County was again plagued by penalties, was held to less than 200 yards of total offense, and two turnovers.
Stephens County Head Coach Thomas Flowers congratulated the Raiders but still believes in his team. “Good win by Habersham. They did a good job and had a good game plan. Their kids fought really hard, but in the end we had too many penalties. I believe in this team. We can go 8-2 if we turn it around mentally. It’s not physical. So, we have to go back and make some changes this weekend and make some changes on Monday then we have to flush it because we have a good Union County team we are going to play next week.”
Habersham Central improves to 1-1 on the season. Stephens County falls to 0-2 and will host Union County in the home opener next Friday night.
