Qualifying for Toccoa & Martin Ends Last Week

Qualifying took place last month for two municipalities that will have seats up for grabs in the November General Election, which is November 7th.

Both the City of Toccoa and the City of Martin had open seats, according to Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran.

The City of Toccoa had two city commission seats open and both incumbent commissioners qualified for re-election, including Jeannette Jameison and Evan Hellenga.

And the City of Martin had two city council seats open as well as the mayor’s seat.

Cochran said that incumbent Mayor Don Foster qualified for re-election of the mayoral seat and both incumbent city council members, Roger Looney and Sandi Stovall qualified for re-election for the city council seats.

Again, the election is November 7 and Cochran said voters in the Martin municipal election will vote at the Registrar’s office in Toccoa and City of Toccoa residents will vote at Toccoa City Hall.

Registrar and Elections offices across Georgia are currently updating their voter rolls and now is the time to register to vote if you have not already done so.

It’s also a good time to check to make sure you are still registered to vote if you have not voted in some years.

The deadline to register to vote is October 10.

Absentee ballots will go out October 13 and early voting begins October 16.
