Public’s Help Sought in Burglary at Yonah Dam

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify a burglary suspect at Yonah Dam.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley tells WNEG News it happened between February 4th and 5th.

He said surveillance cameras captured a man who broke into the Yonah Hydroelectric Dam and made off with various tools that were inside the facility.

Yonah Dam is owned and operated by Georgia Power.

“Our investigators met recently with tri-state law enforcement from neighboring states and Georgia Power Security officials in Atlanta to discuss the case. We are treating this case as a top priority,” Sheriff Shirley told WNEG News Wednesday.

In the surveillance photos released by the Stephens County Sheriff’s office, the suspect appears to be a light-skinned male in his teens or 20’s.

At the time of the break-in the suspect was wearing a dark blue or black hoodie sweatshirt with the word, “Renfroe” in yellow letters on the front along with a basketball emblem, a dark colored baseball cap, and baggy pants.

Anyone with information on who the suspect might be is asked to contact the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 706-886-7048.
