Public aid requested in investigation of a burglary

Investigators with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a May 3 burglary on Hickory Court.

When deputies arrived, they met with the victim who stated her apartment had been burglarized some time during the previous night while she slept.

According to the victim, when she woke up that morning she noticed her back door was open, the front door was unlocked, and some items were missing from inside her residence, including a 55’’ Samsung TV, two purses, an Acer Laptop and a Magellan GPS navigation system.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, after the suspect left the apartment he made a purchase, with the victim’s credit card, at the Wal-Mart in Eastanollee.

“The suspect used the women’s credit card that he had stolen at Wal-Mart. We were able to get an image of the suspect from the Wal-Mart surveillance system,” Shirley said.

Shirley continued to explain that his investigators have searched extensively but have been unable to identify the suspect as of yesterday afternoon.

“Our investigators have exhausted all of our resources and have not been able to identify the suspect. We are asking the public to help us with identifying him,” he added.

Shirley added that the identity of any citizen coming forward with information will not be released.

“You can make an anonymous tip, but please, give us as many details as you can,” Shirley said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Investigation unit at 706-886-7048 or the non-emergency line at 706-779-3911.
