Pollinator Garden planned for Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce

A pollinator garden is planned for the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce. At the October 9th meeting of Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful, Barbara Payne, President of the Horti-Floral Garden Club, spoke about plans to locate a pollinator garden outside of the Chamber building.

Humans could not survive without pollinators, so native plants like milkweed are extremely important for our survival. The garden will be located outside of the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce Office at 160 North Alexander Street in downtown Toccoa.

Payne said, “The Horti-Floral Garden Club is excited to be working with a collaboration of community members and leaders to develop and install a monarch butterfly waystation and pollinator garden at the train depot in memory of beloved garden club member, Betty Troup.  The garden will not only serve as a place where monarch butterflies and other pollinators can thrive and reproduce, but it will be a place where the community can learn about the values of incorporating native plants into their own landscapes. This educational outreach will be associated with The State Botanical Garden of Georgia’s Connect to Protect, https://botgarden.uga.edu/connect-to-protect/. Horti-Floral Garden Club, Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center, Currahee Military Museum, City of Toccoa, and Stephens County Extension invite corporations, businesses, and individuals to join this collaboration for the development and sustainability of the garden.
