October Unemployment Rate Up Slightly in Northeast Georgia, Stephens County

The unemployment rate in Northeast Georgia in October rose slightly to 3.4 percent.

That’s up 0.4 percent from September.

In Stephens County, 101 people filed for unemployment in October, that’s up from 75 this time last year.

The good news, however is that in October the 12-county region also increased its labor force, according to State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.

“Georgia’s job market has been strong all year, across all 12 regions,” Butler said. “We continue to add jobs, employed residents and grow our labor force. We have much to be thankful for.”

Butler said over 1,400 individuals got jobs in Northeast Georgia in October, pushing the total number of empolyed workers to 300,445.

That’s almost 9,000 more people employed in the region than this time last year and set a record in October for most employed residents in Northeast Georgia.
