Oconee County Sweeps Indians in Doubleheader-1973 State Championship Team Honored

The Oconee County Warriors swept a double-header from the Stephens County Indians Friday evening by scores of 5-3 and 12-0. In the process, the Warriors swept the three- game series.

In the first game of the twin bill, Nick Randall gave up a run in the first inning, but didn’t allow another run until the fifth inning. Oconee County scored two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Indians took advantage of three errors by the Warriors and came up with three runs
in the sixth inning but could get no closer.

Dylan Manders homered for Oconee County while Ben Stowe, Ethan Smith and Colby Fowler had singles for the Indians.

In Game Two, Oconee County sent 16 men to the plate in the sixth inning and scored 10 runs as they cruised to a 12-0 win.

Garrett Pless took the loss and lefty Grady Wilkes got the win for the Warriors, who
ran their Region 8-AAA record to 8-1.

Stephens County is now 11-9 overall and 3-6 in region play.

Between games, the 1973 State Champion Stephens County Indians were recognized by Coach Greg McCall and the current Indians team. The Class AA Champions defeated SW DeKalb for the top honor on June 1, 1973. A number of players returned to Toccoa for the recognition.

Stephens County will step outside of region play on Wednesday when they travel to Commerce. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. with airtime at 5:20 P.M. on WNEG.
