Oconee County Celebrates Senior Night with Sweep over Indians

It was a tough night for the Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians on Tuesday night as both teams fell by large margins at Oconee County in Watkinsville.

The Lady Indians led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter but was outscored 29-7 in the decisive 2nd and 3rd quarters and fell 49-26.

My’Angel Carter led the Lady Indians with 6 points and Samiya Scott added 5. Macey Matthews scored 13 points and Caroline Davis added 10 for the Lady Warriors.

Oconee County improves to 3-4 in region-8 play and 7-14 overall.

The Lady Indians fall to 1-6 in the region and 3-18 overall.

In the nightcap, Oconee County jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and never looked back routing the Indians 68-51.

It was senior night in Watkinsville, and the Warriors had five seniors score in double figures led by Noah Hutchinson’s 16 points.

Corey Richie and Jasec Smith scored 10 each to lead the Indians.

With the loss, Stephens County falls to 4-3 in the region and 11-9 overall. Oconee County improves to 3-4 in the region and 14-8 overall.

Elsewhere in region-8 play, the Franklin County girls defeated Monroe Area, and top ranked Hebron Christian Academy routed Hart County.

On the boys’ side, Monroe Area remained undefeated in region play winning at Franklin County, and Hebron Christian won at Hart County.

The Indians and Bulldogs boys’ teams will meet for sole possession of 2nd place on Friday night in Hartwell. The girls will play first at 7 P.M. with airtime on WNEG set for 6:45 P.M.
