Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter to Hold Fall Rabies Clinic Saturday

As we have been telling you, there is no cure for rabies either in pets or in people, but you can protect them and your family.

That’s why the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter in Lavonia will be holding their fall rabies clinic Saturday.

This is the shelter’s second low-cost rabies clinics of the year.

According to Shelter Manager Tammie Jourdenais, the clinic will be held rain or shine.

“Saturday, October 20th from 10a to 2p we will be doing rabies vaccines for $5. We will also be doing distemper/parvo vaccines, bordatella vaccines and we will also be doing cat distemper vaccines. We also see that it will be raining Saturday, but we will have extra tents set up to protect people from the weather,” Jourdenais said.

Both the Canine Distemper and Cat Distemper vaccines will be $7 each.

And Jourdenais said in additions to vaccines inside the shelter, vaccinations can also be done in your vehicle so you pet does not have to leave the car.

And while you’re there with your pet, you might want to drop off a donation of pet food or cleaning supplies.

Jourdenais said they are in desperate need of kitten and puppy food.

“Right now we are completely out of kitten and puppy food. We are also low on cleaning supplies,” she said. “If everybody would bring one bag of kitten and puppy food we would so appreciate it. We also need bottles of Mr Clean, Fabuloso, as well as paper towels and laundry detergent is what we need right this minute.”

All donations to the shelter are tax deductible.

Again the rabies clinic is this Saturday, October 20 at the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter on Bear Creek Road in Lavonia from 10a to 2p.

You do not have to be a resident of Franklin County to take advantage of the low-cost rabies shots.

The shelter staff also reminds pet owners to make sure cats are in a secure carrier and dogs are on a leash.
